It's great to see the process you went through to make sense of the poem -- though you said it was difficult first.

For instance, you said first 'The word "lose" here didn't mean [losing] something' and then you gave a good explanation of how we can "lose" our sense of familiarity with a city. In this sense, let me re-phrase your interpretation, losing isn't always losing something concrete, it could mean losing something more abstract, such as our sense of belongingness, our identity, or our memory. Right?
