Don't looking back in anger! - Neutral Tones
This poem is talking about a failed love story.
We stood by a pond that winter day,
And the sun was white, as though chidden of God,
A pond is a small area of water, which will become ice in winter days. The relationship between this couple was indifferent: A lonely pond, the persona, is trembling in frozen winter day. Although the persona was unhappy and disappointed, the chidden of God (his self-esteem), because "the sun" was white instead of yellow and orange. Sun is sparkling with brilliant rays, but in this case, sun was white.
And a few leaves lay on the starving sods;
-- They had fallen from an ash, and were gray
The starving man wanted more but even got less. Sod should have a lot of leaves on it to cover, to protect, and to fulfill.
Your eyes on me were as eyes that rove
Over tedious riddles of years ago;
She felt tiresome and wanted to get rid of this heavy burden, roaming over but not his arms.
And some word played between us to and fro
On which lost the more by our love.
Now the game was over, and no one won the first prize. Love has gone far away and left nothing behind it, except sadness and sorrow.
The smile on your month was the deadest thing
Alive enough to have strength to die;
And a grin of bitterness swept thereby
Like an ominous bird a-wingíK
She put an end to their love, saying goodbye with bitter smile. As wind swept by, this poor man heard a bird fluttering its "wings" to the sky high above. A-wingíK
Since then, keen lessons that love deceives,
And wrings with wrong, have shaped to me
Your face, and the God-curst sun, and a tree,
And a pond edged with grayish leaves.
The man learned painful lessons through recalling these memories repeatedly. Love deceived him and twisted his face. Her pitiless grin, her cruelty not considering him, and their hopeless love have all rooted deeply in his heart. The destiny led them to ASH, which has completely burnt out. Love doesn't exist anymore, Neutral TonesíK
