The speaker obviously against to build the wall and he thought that the wall may be a fence between he and people. Therefore, he said "What I was walling in or walling out. And to whom I was like to give offense." the speaker metioned 'hunters', 'the yelping dog' and ' rabbit'. I think he may try to explain the strong and the weak or his neighbots and himself. Hunters' work is to catch animals. It's a little cruel and cool thing, and also there are many hunters, but only one rabbit. It's so poor and helpless and doesn't know what to do. "I have come after them and made repair." He used 'come after', so I guess he was reluctant to build the wall. In the first line, he has shown his tone. "But at spring wending- time we find them there." "Spring is the mischief in me." Though I don't know if 'spring' has any special meaning, I have an idea that these two sentences are related. Because he should repair the gaps in spring, he concerned spring to be the mischief. There are fences which the shelpherd uses to circle the cows. But the neighbours are not cows, so the speaker wondered why they should build a wall. It may balk the connection between he and others. "He is all pine and I am apple orchard." The pine needles sometimes hurt people if we touch them. Therefore the speaker said that "My apple trees will never get across. And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him." The speaker wanted to change his neighbours, but it seemed useless. His neighbours still insisted,"Good fences make good neighbours" The relationship between the speaker and his neighbours can be compared to the relationship in our society. People always buile a wall. Some try to protect themselves; some are selfish; some don't trust others and some just don't want to get touch with people. They show indifference and coldness to others. Hence, people are not very close and friendly even between the neighbours next to our houses.
