Hi, Nancy,

Male sculpturess? Do you mean sculptures like David, which shows strong male bodies? This quite an interesting association, though we cannot ignore the fact that there are sculptures of women, too.

My general advice for this journal as well as your term paper is that you need to be specific--in language as well as your choice of focus.

For instance, you said, "They don*t smile and pose unnaturally. Often, their gazes are without focus and spirit, which remind people of Barbie dolls. Most of all,
they are said to be trapped by the use of windows or frames." This statement has partial truth in it. It's great that you find out that none of them smile. But do they all pose unnaturally? Right, a lot of them (and especially Porsepine and La Pia), but how about "Fazio's Mistress"? Is their gaze unfocused? Their gaze, I think, is intense, but maybe you want to say that none of them look at the spectators (return their gaze)?

Keep working. A lot of your questions are worth asking.

Kate
