教學目標: |

Students will examine their personal problems in the segmental area
and supra-segmental area of spoken English pronunciation, and make
corrections under the instructor’s guidance.

Students will be acquainted with the supra-segmental features of
spoken English and improve their level of fluency in speaking.
-
Students will learn to discern the supra-segmental features
listening to spoken English and enhance their listening.

課程範圍: |
This course offers individual diagnosis of
English pronunciation problems as well as the learning and observing of
the supra-segmental features such as reduction, linking, stress, rhythm,
…etc. in spoken English. Observation and practice of these features with
various materials are also provided. Strong emphasis is on individual
counseling throughout the semester to help students achieve better
fluency and enhance listening of spoken English.
本課程提供實際生活實材,引導學生觀察口語英語之超音段音素,如省音、連音、重音、節奏等;並使用多元教材,讓學生習得口語英語的聽與說的能力。此外,本課程強調整學期的個人輔導,期使每一位同學晉升至進階的口語流暢度;而聽力也會同時進步,因為聽力與發音有相對的關係。

reciting conversation, articles, stories, and news pieces/
課堂朗讀會話、文章、故事、新聞時之口語修正輔導.
- Pair work and group work/
配對及小組團體朗讀會話、文章及故事.
- Observation based on movie, news
reports, and TV programs/ 觀察電影、新聞報導、及電視節目.
(Class will be conducted in a language
laboratory where equipments are accessible. Room LI300 is
preferable. English, Chinese and Taiwanese are used in lectures and
to help with correction.) |
課程進度及綱要: |

eek 1-4 Individual diagnosis (A-Z, vowels & consonants,
supra-segmental features), group counseling based on diagnosis, and
lectures of supra-segmental features; Observation Chart 1 due.

Week 5-8 Lectures of supra-segmental features, observation with
audio and audio-visual material, Observation Charts 2 & 3 due, and
mid-term oral recitation due.

Week 9-12 Class counseling with student recitation, Observation
Charts 5 & 6 due.
-
Week 13-16 More observation, and Observation Charts 7 & 8 on live
media due, and final recitation due.
(Detailed syllabus according to the
academic calendar will be distributed on the beginning day of the
semester.)

- Attendance:
Personal counseling is crucial to progress and attendance is
therefore strictly observed. For each absence 5 points will be
removed from your final grade. 3 absences will cause failure of this
course.
本課程著重在口說能力的個別輔導,故嚴格管理出席率。每學期可有一次缺席不扣分,其後每多缺席一次,扣總平均5分,滿三次缺席(含第一次及病事假)即不及格。
- Weekly oral
assignments: 40%
- Mid-term oral
recitation: 20% (Recitation of a story selected by the instructor/朗讀故事)
- Observation
Chats: 20% (Observation based on student-selected audio or
audio-visual material as approved by the instructor; each page
contains 10 phrases or sentences, sample provided by the instructor/
生活聽材觀察記錄表)
- Final oral
recitation: 20% (Recitation of 2 news pieces assigned by the
instructor/ 朗讀新聞2則 )
