學生不限於時空,在遠端經由電腦網路(和/或光碟)和老師與其他學生一起學習。

特色:Anytime, any place,自發的、以學生為中心的學習模式。

* Students should be more active, and more self-disciplined! You may fail the course if you don’t know how to motivate yourselves.

Purpose:

  1. to overcome the limitations of space and time in students (some of which work during the day) in SOCE are under.
  2. to allow more teachers (from different places) to teach in SOCE.
Procedure:

1. pre-class reading,

2. replacement of in-class lecture:

-- give out the CD and make videos available online. * Watch it on the day when the class is supposed to meet.

-- wk 1, watch Bicycle Thief

-- wk 1-2: group discussion. You can meet in the class period.

-- wk 2-3: meet with the teacher in groups. (two or three groups each time)

3. after-class checking:

wk 1, giving the notes they take and questions,

wk 2, giving group discussion notes,

wk 3, taking a quiz.
 
Questions for the first group discussion: 

1. Marx says: "It is not the consciousness of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social being that determines their consciousness."

  1. What does it mean? Why is his analysis of history and society "materialist"? 
  2. What are the meanings of the following terms: base, superstructure, mode of production, means of production, relations of production? How are they represented in “The Rocking-Horse Winner” and The Bicycle Thief?
