48. Chang, Andy (E) "Romanization in Taiwan." Romanization is a necessity for non-Roman-alphabet-language countries to facilitate a better communication between non-Roman language countries and other countries, to make foreigners either to understand transliteration of names, or even to pronounce the character. Recently, Tong yong pin yin (³q¥Î«÷µ) and Han yu pin yin (º~»y«÷µ) are the two choices that Taiwan has to choose as its official romanization system. Comparing these two systems, I find out that Hanyu Pinyin has more advantages than Tongyong Pinyin. Hanyu Pinyin is not only more familiar and more internationally used in the world, but it also is more accurate in its structure of conversion, and has more sources, which use it as their transliteration system, such as textbooks or dictionaries, than Tong yong Pin yin. Therefore I strongly recommend Hanyu Pinyin to become Taiwan's official romanization system. (PowerPoint)
