Education for Kids under 12?”
English education is becoming an important subject in elementary schools,
and the government had decided to open up the opportunities for the foreigners
to teach in Taiwan. There are many
voices going for and against this idea. This

Chang Wendy (A) “Beauty
Predominates? Job-hunting isn’t All About Good Looks”
Facelift is becoming popular among job-hunters, and so is the new
technology in beautifying applicant photos. Good looks are what these hunters
try to pursue. However, the applicant’s ‘appearance’, in the matter of
job-hunting, means not only the looks but also grooming, dressing, and manners.
By surveying among employers, this paper will prove that good looks do not
determine the results of job-hunting.

(E) “The Role
of Gender in Advertising.” Gender
stereotype is one of the strategies used in advertising to earn consumers’
identification, especially those products with gender-specific attributes; such
as car commercials for men and ads of household products for women. For those
products designed as gender differently, their ads can still use and thus
reinforce stereotypical images of each gender; such as the ads of shoes and
perfume, etc.
Chiang, Kevin. (B) “The Puzzlement over Phonics.” Instead of KK phonetic symbols, phonics has been used as a way to teach the pronunciation of English in elementary school. However, after the news that elementary school students uses Mandarin phonetic symbols to learn English, the suitability of applying phonics to elementary school led to different opinions. Is phonics really a better way than KK phonetic symbols for elementary school students to learn English?

“American
Aborigines In the Hollywood Films.”
Unlike traditional Hollywood Westerns, Dances
with Wolves and The
Last of the Mohicans
show respect for and understanding of the aborigines.
However, there are in these two films still some unfair treatments of the
aborigines in their plot development, the presentation of their living modes, as
well as some of the lines the characters speak.

Kuo, Miranda (E). “The
Consequences of Divorce in Single-Parent Families and their Possible
Solutions.” Divorce does not
always result in negative outcomes. For children raised in single-parent
families, it may make them become more mature and independent than their peers;
and later cherish love relationships and marriages more. As for single parents,
after the initial hurt feelings, sense of loss and with efforts, they may start
to find a new focus of life, feel accomplished about supporting themselves,
while offering a more peaceful and suitable environment for both themselves and
their children.

(B) “A Serious Crime—Rape.”
Raping is a common crime in the world and it affects the victims
eternally. In order to protect
people’s safety, the government should set up the law on sentencing the
offenders to death, since there is no other way to stop them committing the
crime except putting them to death. (PowerPoint)

“The Existent of Transmigration”
Transmigration means that everyone has previous lives, and after dieing,
a person will become incarnate in another person, a new life. Some people
believe this but some do not since no one really comes back after dieing to tell
us that transmigration exists. However, with some scientific methods, we can say
that transmigration exists.

(A). “Corporal Punishment”
Although corporal punishment in the classroom
is prohibited now, there are more voices calling for the return of it. Corporal
punishment is not just a punishment but a traditional upbringing as well. Under
certain principles, corporal punishment can be an effective and harmless way of
behaving children even now.

“The Influences of Negative Political Advertisings.”
As the elections in Taiwan become more and more competitive, negative
political advertisements have become an approach for candidates to take to
attack their opponents; however, the influences are in fact quite limited. In my research paper I will take some negative
advertisements, which were published in the recent elections for examples to
show my position, such as XinPiaoAn in 2000 President Election, the TV
advertisements in 1998 Taipei Mayor Election, 2003 Taipei Mayor Election and
Kaohsiung Mayor Election. In
addition, I will use the three levels of reflection of the public toward
negative political advertisements to analyze them: The cognitive component, the
affective component, and the conative or motivational component.
