*     Chen, Ellen (A).  “Is Foreign Teacher a “MUST” in Taiwan’s English Education for Kids under 12?”       English education is becoming an important subject in elementary schools, and the government had decided to open up the opportunities for the foreigners to teach in Taiwan.  There are many voices going for and against this idea.  This paper will then prove to the audience that either foreigners or native Taiwanese teachers made not much difference to the kids that are learning English.

*     Chang Wendy (A)   “Beauty Predominates? Job-hunting isn’t All About Good Looks”  Facelift is becoming popular among job-hunters, and so is the new technology in beautifying applicant photos. Good looks are what these hunters try to pursue. However, the applicant’s ‘appearance’, in the matter of job-hunting, means not only the looks but also grooming, dressing, and manners. By surveying among employers, this paper will prove that good looks do not determine the results of job-hunting.

(A)  “Advertising: An Industry that Everyone Needs”  Critics and some people often neglect the benefits advertising brings but charge that it is redundant and lowers the quality of TV watching. However, by viewing advertising from the aspects of media, consumers and the society, the necessity of advertising industry can be proved.

*   Ho, Anissa, Man-Yee. Section C.  "Does listening to classical music improve spatial ability?" This paper discusses whether classical music determines human spatial ability or not. This paper argues that listening to the Mozart's music cannot cause a subsequent enhancement in reasoning, and this negation will based upon the original study in 1993 by Dr. Rauscher, F. *     Huang, Sherry.  (E)  “The Role of Gender in Advertising.”  Gender stereotype is one of the strategies used in advertising to earn consumers’ identification, especially those products with gender-specific attributes; such as car commercials for men and ads of household products for women. For those products designed as gender differently, their ads can still use and thus reinforce stereotypical images of each gender; such as the ads of shoes and perfume, etc.

*   Chen, Yusi.  (E)  American Aborigines In the Hollywood Films.”  Unlike traditional Hollywood Westerns, Dances with Wolves and The Last of the Mohicans show respect for and understanding of the aborigines.  However, there are in these two films still some unfair treatments of the aborigines in their plot development, the presentation of their living modes, as well as some of the lines the characters speak.

*     Kuo, Miranda (E).  “The Consequences of Divorce in Single-Parent Families and their Possible Solutions.”  Divorce does not always result in negative outcomes. For children raised in single-parent families, it may make them become more mature and independent than their peers; and later cherish love relationships and marriages more. As for single parents, after the initial hurt feelings, sense of loss and with efforts, they may start to find a new focus of life, feel accomplished about supporting themselves, while offering a more peaceful and suitable environment for both themselves and their children.

*   Chang, Peggy.  (B)  “A Serious Crime—Rape.”  Raping is a common crime in the world and it affects the victims eternally.  In order to protect people’s safety, the government should set up the law on sentencing the offenders to death, since there is no other way to stop them committing the crime except putting them to death.  (PowerPoint) 

 

*     Fang, Evelyn. (D)  “The Existent of Transmigration”  Transmigration means that everyone has previous lives, and after dieing, a person will become incarnate in another person, a new life. Some people believe this but some do not since no one really comes back after dieing to tell us that transmigration exists. However, with some scientific methods, we can say that transmigration exists.

*     Kan Winnie(B)  ”Government’s wrong decision— what’s wrong with rice wine?”  For entering World Trade Organization, government signs in the unreasonable agreements. One of them is the rice wine is not taken as a cooking wine. Therefore, the taxation of rice wine is too high and leads to a chaotic society in economy and public order.

*     Peng, Crystal(D)  “The Hidden Killer—Genetically Modified Crops”  In order to make crops bigger, tastier, or easier to grow the Genetic Modification has applied from 1990’s, this new biotechnology makes many new Genetically Modified Crops (GM Crops) such as herbicide-resistant and drought-tolerant crops. Those makeup species are aliens marching into the nature, and they really destroy the balance of the ecology system.

*     Chien, Sharon (E)  “The Canadian Independent Films Bloom with Government’s Backing.”  Canada, right in the closest position of facing the biggest threat of Hollywood, the strongest commercial film production in the world, is amazingly blooming its independent films. After the Canadian government dealing with the dilemma of whether to strongly protect its native films or release more flexible regulations for subsidy plans; the constantly adjustments for better, well-organized systems and policies are offering more resources and opportunities for independent filmmakers to keep on producing films.

In a world of networks, we as computer users should realize it now is essential to protect our privacy over the net.

*     Tsai, Rico. (E) “The Influences of Negative Political Advertisings.”  As the elections in Taiwan become more and more competitive, negative political advertisements have become an approach for candidates to take to attack their opponents; however, the influences are in fact quite limited.  In my research paper I will take some negative advertisements, which were published in the recent elections for examples to show my position, such as XinPiaoAn in 2000 President Election, the TV advertisements in 1998 Taipei Mayor Election, 2003 Taipei Mayor Election and Kaohsiung Mayor Election.  In addition, I will use the three levels of reflection of the public toward negative political advertisements to analyze them: The cognitive component, the affective component, and the conative or motivational component.
