Leontes

The King of Sicilia, who because of jealousy believes his wife commit adultery with his childhood friend Polixenes. His jealousy has brought his family destruction.

Hermione

Leontes's wife who becomes the victim of Leontes's tyrannical jealousy. She dies of grief when she learns the oracle from Apollo, but is restored to life at the end of the play.

Polixenes

The King of Bohemia as well as a childhood friend to Leontes. He is falsely accused of adultery and conspiracy. At the end of the play, he is reconciled with Leontes.

Mamilius

Leontes's son, who dies of grief when his mother is falsely accused of adultery on the public trial.

Perdita

The daughter of Leontes and Hermione who is abandoned in a desert place as soonas she is born. She is brought up by an old shepherd. Falling in love with Florizel, Perdita comes back to place where she was born, and is reunited with her parents at the end.

Florizel

The son of Polixene. Falling in love with Perdita, he flees with Perdita to Sicilia because of his father's rejection of their betrothal.

Camillo

A royal and noble lord of Sicilia. He flees with Polixenes to Bohemia since he is unwilling to obey Leontes's order to poison Polixenes. He is betrothed to Paulina when he finally comes back to Sicilia.

Antigonus

A royal lord to Leontes, who is appointed to abandon the baby. He loses his life on the shore of Bohemia.

Paulina

Antigonus's wife as well as a loyal defender of Hermione. Strongly attacking Leontes's jealous madness, as Hermione is falsely accused of adultery. She urges Hermione to come to life again at the end of the play. As the Leontes's family is reunited, she is betrothed to Camillo.

Autolycus

A countryside rogue, who deceives the clown, and entertains the guests by singing ballads at the feast. He helps Florizel and Perdita flee from Bohemia.

Shepherd

An old sheep tender, who finds Perdita as soon as she is abandoned. He brings up Perdita, and reveals Perdita's true origin at the end.

Clown

The shepherd's guillable son, who believes what Autolycus has said. Coming to Sicilia with his father and Autolycus, he's status is elevated.
