English Department Homepage

Welcome back! I hope that the Year of the Rooster is a good and productive time for your English writing and speaking. This semester we will continue to build your confidence and competence in speaking and writing clear, concise, and well organized English essays.  As we practiced last semester, you will be required to participate inclassroom discussions, make oral presentations, write multiple drafts of four papers (business writing, a comparison/contrast paper, an observation--evaluation essay, and a research paper), write regular journals, complete in-class mid-term examination, and participate in the Junior Research Paper Convention. You areasked to keep all drafts of your papers and all related materials. At the end of the semester, you have to turn in your portfolio.

Requirements:

No absences or late papers. For late papers the grades will be F (below 60).  No copied papers.

Note:  For the Research Convention, all students should turn in their abstracts (50 words or less; also including a list of any special AV equipment they need for their presentation) on May 17, two weeks before the convention begins.  On May __  two volunteer students are to be on the convention committee to set up the presentation schedule and make the giant poster(s).
