[Requirements] [Grading Policy] [Next]
To make you more effective and creative automatic learners with more social awareness, this semester we will have three new activities:
- Problem Solving:
- Social Problems: In writing, we will have a problem-solving paper which deals with problems involving more than ourselves.
- [one journal entry] At the Teacher-Student area (hereafter called T-S area) in e-office, you will need to present and describe one problem well and clearly before the mid-term, and offer two responses to your groupmates' problems. (Of course, you don't have to discuss personal problems you do not like to share with others.) Please be generous in offering solutions.
- Language Problems: Every Friday, we will take turns to bring the language problems to class for discussion.
- Relevant Information from Prentice Hall
- Formal presentation: each person will have 10-15 minutes to give an organized presentation on a topic of your interest (preferably your research paper topic). One week before your presentation, you should post your topic in the S-T area, describe it and offer related materials. Also, you should form some questions for us to think over; questions you will answer in your presentation.
- My Access!: This automatic grading system may not be perfect, but it is a fact of life we need to deal with, since more and more language proficiency tests use such a grading system. (For your information, check MY Access! Online. The A.I. essay scoring engine used by MY Access, called "IntelliMetric," is also used by The College Board, ACT [American College Testing] and GMAC now, to score their college entrance placement test [WritePlacer, Compass e-Write].)
