ESSAY 3 pages, 800-1000 words, due 5/15; Instructions and topics will be announced. Submit essays on time; lateness will be penalized. Plagiarized assignments will receive no credit.
PARTICIPATION/PREPARATION Students should read and prepare the texts assigned for each class meeting before the beginning of class. Class time will involve a combination of lecture, discussion (Q & A), and presentation. The class will divide into groups to prepare and present answers to study questions, which will be distributed for some readings. Group report outlines are expected to be put online. Quizzes, if necessary, will also count toward your class participation grade. Because this is a survey course, we will not try to cover every aspect of every assigned text. Nevertheless, students are expected to read and study all the texts, and express comments in class and/or online. On exams and in essays students are encouraged to go beyond what we have said in class.
ATTENDANCE and promptness are essential to this course. Absences, or persistent lateness, will hurt your grade. Students with more than three unexcused absences will fail this course. Send me an email explaining any absence beforehand, if possible, or as soon as possible after the missed class. If you have been sick and sought professional care, please show me the doctorˇ¦s certificate and the National Health Insurance Card.
