Chen, Eva. Section D. “Appearance, Design or Special Functions? Determining Factors in College Girls’ Choice of Cell Phones” One stereotype of women is that they tend to pay more attention to the appearance of their belongings than men. This research paper proves this assumption wrong in the case of university girls’ choice of cell phone and argues that university girls do have gender-specific needs, but they are not limited to appearance. Yang, Eliza. Section B. "Embryonic Stem Cell Research---a Gift of Hope" The question of whether or not to proceed with human embryonic stem cell research is an ethically serious and difficult one. This research paper examines three major ethical issues involved in human embryonic stem cell research, concerning, respectively, the moral status of embryos, the use of embryos, and the cloning of embryos for research purposes. It argues that the identification of the human embryo as a person carries far-reaching consequences, some are not only inconsistent with the penalty provided in abortion legislation, but deeply involve with most people’s moral intuitions. We can discuss more how this type of research can be beneficial to our human-beings in a more rational way. Section D. “How Do College Girls Choose Cosmetics: Taking Female Students in Fu-Jen Catholic University as Example.” When people think of cosmetics marketing, print advertisement and commercial on television seem to be the two impressions they have. Most of the manufacturers of cosmetics tend to only focus on the two parts above; however, it costs a lot of money. In this postmodern time, college girls can quickly absorb information of beauty from various kinds of channels in their daily lives such as Internet and TV programs. Manufacturers of cosmetics can really do more and better about marketing in low budget as long as they know consumers well. Therefore, the aim of this research paper will be suggesting a set of promotion strategy base on the consumer behavior of college girls.

Huang, Allen. Section D “Reading and Cultural Awareness: Teaching Reading to Junior High School Students.” Grammar Translation Method (GTM) is one of the popular language teaching methods in Taiwan. However, such kind of grammar- focused method doesn’t guarantee student’s performance in scores and arouse student’s interests in language learning. The research paper discusses about how English teaching should enhance students’ cultural awareness, which can help them both in test-taking and relating language learning to their life experiences. Kuo, Carolin. Section C. “Gender Gap in Math— Social Factors as Main Causes!” Male-female differences in mathematics performance, though seem to decrease over the years, have long existed and consistently been believed to be the result of biological differences in the two sexes. However, in this paper, I argue that social factors are the main causes of the gender gap in mathematics achievement. The possible causes of the gap are discussed and categorized into two categories—external and internal— in this paper. Suggestions to bridge the gap will be provided at the end of the paper.

Wu, Louis. Section E. “The Madwoman in the Diary:Post-feminism in Bridget Jones’s Diary” This paper argues that Bridget Jones’s Diary is a post-feminist work. It will develop through close reading and analysis of the novel in which we’ll see the glorious heritage of feminist success and outbreaks in terms of fighting against the patriarchal society; however, Helen Fielding, the author, seems to make parodies of contemporary feminism through the comicalities and contradictions of Bridget Jones, which leads to the arena of post-feminism.

Section C. “Home-based Education: a Workable Alternative Education in Taiwan” The focus of my research is to introduce the idea of home-based education and convince people that this alternative education is actually feasible and worth trying in Taiwan. Several possible and crucial reasons why some parents take home-based education as their choice will be clearly examined. Besides, some straightly-related issues as well as concerns brought up by opponents will be analyzed in terms of who, what, how home-schoolers are taught, the cost of home-education, and the acquisition of official diploma. Additionally, a couple of successful cases taken place in Taiwan or overseas will be included as forceful supports in my conclusion. Li, Peter. Section D. “A Major Determining Factor of Aborginal Junior High School Students’ Future Plans: A Case Study of Students in Wu Feng Junior High School” While the government and many social welfare organizations have given their supports to the education of aboriginal students in Taiwan in order to improve their life condition either now or in the future, it is important to examine what aspects of their life especially need help and improvement. By means of the study from the statistics of the questionnaires and the individual conferences to the 3rd grade aboriginal students in Wu Feng Junior High School, this paper argues that the influence from family impacts mostly the aboriginal students’ future learning and careers selections. Fang, Clara. Section E. “The Best Way to Give Comments on ESL Students’ Compositions” Although it is important to respond to content, correction on sentence-level errors has its own necessity, for it is the basis from which one learns a second language. This paper argues that teachers should pay more attention to grammar, especially in the final draft. Teachers’ comments on ten students’ papers are analyzed to show how to respond to sentence-level errors.

Section E. “Save Football in Taiwan” The paper proposes that developing football could promote Taiwan to the international society. The research indicates that the failure for football to become a popular sport is caused by non-support of government policies and Taiwanese citizens’ disregard. To promote football, the authorities are advised to implement solutions in three aspects.
Chang, Viola Section B. “The High Speed Rail Brings a Remarkable Contribution to Taiwan.” In the year 2007, the most amazing transportation revolution is born and starts its revolutionary history in Taiwan. That is, the running of High Speed Rail (HSR). This remarkable construction is going to make huge economic benefits in Western Corridor. It will relieve the traffic congestion and promote balanced regional development. In other words, HSR is going to transform the western part of Taiwan into a one-day living circle. Also, promoting integration of mass transportation system can be fulfilled with the completion of HSR. It can cooperate with transit system in cities and countries to accomplish the perfect transportation integration. Moreover, HSR can conserve energy and reduce air pollution. For all the benefits HSR brings, citizens should believe it would work much better as time goes by. Related website: http://www.hsr.gov.tw/ Ko, Alan. Section A. “The Fever of Speed: Street Racing” Street racing has been a social problem for a long time. Due to media, peer pressure, and parents’ ignorance, young people addict to street racing and it even becomes a popular culture now. Although the government sets up laws, fines, the police to prohibit from street racing, the problems are still not solved. Thus, the policies which the government insists are not effective. Because nobody can stop the desire of speed, opening places for people to race their vehicles is necessary. This research paper will prove that providing place for street racing is a better method than prohibition.
