"The Relation between Novels and Adaptive Movies: Is Movie Second-rate?"

The relation between novels and adaptive movies has been controversial. Some critics think that compared to novels, adaptive movies are second-rate, for they always miss some expected details and elements. As a result, they fail to present well as novels do. However, with the time limits, production team cannot but delete, rearrange, or add some plots to attract the audience. In this research, three cases are included to discuss the charms in the adaptive movies: Twilight, Harry Potter, and My Sister’s Keeper. Despite to some criticism, the movies with realistic atmosphere, impressive characters’ images, and clear themes actually raise more people’s attention and interests to watch, and therefore benefit the sales of novels. As a result, adaptive movies should be equally seen as another art form.

“Something More Than Selling Beverage”

Starbucks, the famous beverage company throughout the world, always appeals to consumers in spite of its comparatively higher price. In my research paper, I will discuss how Starbucks reaches success with the strategies of taking Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Besides gaining profit, Starbucks has also done much community service, ethical sourcing, and environmental protection. My research also helps to examine how Starbucks has executed good Corporate Social Responsibility and could be a model for other companies.

To study the relationship between yoga practice and stress management abilities, a questionnaire of 15 questions were distributed to 30 individuals. To get a further understanding of how stress management skills are improved, from the questionnaire respondent group, two yoga learners were interviewed.  The findings show that teenagers who practice yoga equip better stress management abilities.  Overall, this research presents reliable evidence to prove yoga’s therapy effect on teenagers.

“The Reading Experiences of College Students: Paper Book
vs. Digital Book”

More and more people possess e-book devices, and digital books are gradually sharing book markets, competing with traditional paper books. The research aims to compare college readers’ reading experiences between paper books and digital books. Through an analysis on 20 qualitative interviews, it was found that from college readers’ perspectives, when reading text with length (excluding news, short articles…,) reading experiences of paper books are somehow better than those of digital books, in terms of three aspects: 1) Before reading, the purchase process in bookstores. 2) During reading, the sensory differences. 3) After reading, the desire of collection. This project will contribute to suture research concerning similar topics and offer an insight into the book markets for publishers.
