“Left-handedness—Does It Matter?”

There are right-handers around us, and there are left-handers around us. However, most of the facilities and equipment around us are specifically designed for right-handers. It is believed that the “lefties” have often suffered inconvenience caused by their handedness. This paper is an attempt to find out the problem of being a left-handed person, how they deal with it, and what the right-handers think of the left-handers. Other aspects like the causes of handedness, and the benefits of being left-handed are also included in this paper. Through this research, people can learn more about the lives of left-handers, and hopefully this will lead to a more equal and fair society.

“Stephen Chow’s ‘Mo Lei Tau’ Culture”

This research paper examines the motif of “Mo Lei Tau” in Stephen Chow’s films. Some critics think his films and culture have brought negative effect on the teenagers. However, I want to argue that Chow’s skills and method used in the films actually present a true reflection of social phenomena of our time. The humor of his characters shared—“Mo Lei Tau”—in Chow’s films is not just the vulgar subculture, but gives people a way to examine the world.

“An Investigation of the Influences of Product Characteristics on College
Students’ Intention to Shop Online”

With the development of Internet technology, online shopping has become one of the most popular Internet activities in recent years. According to UCLA Center for Communication policy, almost 50 percent of Internet users made online purchases in 2011. Several empirical studies have investigated the essential factors affecting online shopping attitudes and behavior. “Product characteristics” is one of the five categories of factors. Its subcategories include brands, product quality, price and variety of goods. One of the online shopping behaviors is intention to shop online, which refers to consumers’ willingness to make purchases in an Internet store. This study examines the relationship between product characteristics and Taiwanese college students’ intention to shop online. An online questionnaire is used to collect data from randomly selected undergraduate college students in Taiwan. The findings of this study could be useful to online marketers who seek to successfully promote their products to college students.

“The Effectiveness of Different Vocabulary Teaching on Elementary School Students: Hess & Guo- Tai”

The purpose of this study is to observe the similarities of vocabulary teaching between two different English learning situations, Guo-Tai elementary school and Hess Language School. During the three-month period, children from Guo-Tai have six hours of English class per week; while the children in Hess have four hours class per week. In order to study fifth graders’ vocabulary comprehension, the researcher applies various data collection methods, including observation, children’s reading and speaking performance in class, vocabulary tests, and interviews. Regarding the major findings of the study, these two groups of children both made progress on vocabulary learning. This study aims to compare the effective vocabulary teaching from local school teaching and cram school teaching.  Based on the findings, suggestions for teachers on vocabulary teaching will then be provided.
