 Peer Critique Sheet for Paper II: Cause & Effect

Read the author's paper very carefully and evaluate the paper according to the checklist.  Remember to comment on both good and weak points.

1.  IDEA: 

1. What's you general response to the paper?  Is it interesting, original, worth-  
reading? Why? 
   
*2. What is the phenomenon observed in the paper?  Does the author's observation  
 Strike you as insightful, original, stimulating, or it's a kind of cliche?é? 
   
*3. Did the writer discuss the reasons that lead to the phenomenon observed?  List  
   the causes presented in the paper. 
   
*4. Is the discussion of causes thorough, objective or is it limited and subjective?  
   Would you add in any causes that may lead to the situation discussed in the paper?  
   Please write them here. 
     
*5. Did the writer discuss or predict any possible consequences that may result from  
   the phenomenon observed in the paper?  List them here. 
     
*6. Do you think the effects that the author discussed are related to the phenomenon  
   (situation) and are they really going to think there are other possible  
   consequences?  Please suggest them the writer.
  2. ORGANIZATION: 
1. Can you follow one cause to another and see how they lead to the situation?  Are  
the causes discussed in a well-organized order? 
  
2. If you were the author, would you discuss the subject in the same way or would you  
arrange the materials in a different way?  Share your ideas with the author. 
  
3. Do you find the beginning attractive?  Would you be eager to read the paper after  
 you read the beginning? Why or why not? 
  
4. Can you follow the logic of the paper smoothly?  (Did the author jump from one  
point to another?)  Are there any transitions missing and thus causing troubles for you to understand the paper? 
  
5. What do you feel about the ending of the paper?
   3. LANGUAGE: 
1. Are there any spelling errors? 
2. Are there any S-V agreement errors? 
3. Are there any unclear parts in the paper for you?  Tell the author your troubles reading those parts.
