Peer Critique Sheet for paper 1: Definition

Read the author's paper very carefully and evaluate the paper according to the checklist.  Remember to comment on both good and weak points.
IDEA
1. What's your general response to the paper?  Is it interesting, original, worth reading?  Why?
 
2. Do you think that the author has made a wise choice selecting a suitable topic for a definition paper?
 
3.
1). Did the author employ any helpful difinition techniques (full-sentence difinition, classification, analysis, example illustration, description, comparison and contrast, history of the word, etc.?) when difining the subject (or key term) of the paper?  Name some examples of good usage of techniques.
2). Are the results effective?  Do the discussions help you to see the subject defined more clearly or concretely?  Or do they give you a new insight into the subject?  Name some examples.
3). Are there any parts of the paper that you do not agree or you do not understand very clearly?  Take notes here and discuss them with the author.
ORGANIZATION
1. Can you follow the topic of the paper smoothly?  (Did the author jump from one point to another?)
 
2. Do you feel that the paper have an attractive introduction, a clear body and a conclusion that somewhat summarizes the whole paper or leaves you savoring/reflectin upon the paper?  Why and why not?
 
3. If you were the author, would you discuss the subject in the same way or would you arrange the materials in a different way?  Share your ideas with the author.
 
4. Do you find the beginning attractive?  Would you be eager to read the paper after you read the beginning?  Why or why not?
 
5. Did the author provide you with a clear idea about what the subject is any where in the paper (esp. at the beginning or the ending)?

LANGUAGE:
 
1. Are there any spelling errors?
2. Are there any S-V agreement errors?
3. Are there any unclear parts in the paper for you?  Tell the author your troubles reading those parts?
