Cultural Connection: Connecting with the Expert

During the semester, we will have some weeks to connect with a U.S. instructional media design expert, Jodi Ellis, through telecommunications. This will include both synchronous and asynchronous contacts.

The synchronous contacts will be done through desktop videoconference in October. Trainings will be given in class prior to the actual connection. Then, the videoconferencing will be conducted in small groups. Each time a group of two or three students will talk to the English native speaker media expert. Possible topics for discussion will be: Methods for choosing authoring software and Language Sensitivity in Designing Web-based Materials. Be prepared to ask and discuss with her questions related to language and media design issues.

For the asynchronous communication, we will set up a discussion group on Yahoo Groups (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EFL_Media/). Text-based communication with the expert will be carried out throughout the semester. Take this opportunity to ask for suggestions for your Application Project (using either HyperCam or Viewlet Builder).
