How to Construct an outline

To construct and outline, one should begin by formulating the central idea of the paper. The next step is to set down the main topics to be included. Then one indicated the supporting ideas, which will appear as subtopics. Common organizing principles are chronology; cause-effect; process; and logic, deductive or inductive. A deductive line of argument moves from the general to the specific, and an inductive one moves from the specific to the general.
