Preposition + Gerund (V+ing)
I. We use gerund after preposition, not infinitive. 在介詞後面, 我們使用動名詞.
For example: (a) Kate insisted on coming with us.
(b) We're excited about going to Tahiti.
(c) I apologized for being late.
We use gerund (V+ing) after preposition as on, about, and for.
在介詞 on, about, for 之後, 我們使用動名詞.
II. We use by and with to show how things be done. We use gerund after "by"or "with."
我們用BY和WITH 表示事情如何完成.我們在"BY"和"WITH"的後面接動名詞.
For example: (a) Pat turned off the tape recorder by pushing the stop button.
In example (a), we use By + Ving to show how Pat did something.
(b) Mary Goes to work by bus.
(c) Andrea stirred her coffee with a spoon.
In example (b) and (c), we also use "By" or "With" + N. to show how something be done.
