Pale, fleshy, spiritual and framed are the DGR's women models in his paintings.
On the other hand, in all sorts of TV commercials and ads, Beauty centers/salons have a great deal of worshipers.
In my point of view, these modern women are as framed as the goddess-like women in DGR's paintings.
Women in DGR's paintings are fleshy and pale while models in the beauty commercials are mostly slim/skinny and heavy-makeup.
Women in DGR's paintings are by and large either framed by a frame (eg. La Donna Della Finestra) or constrained in the space in the painting (eg. La Pia De Tolomei).
And modern women in Taiwan who eagar to be as slim as supermodel have confined not merely their view/definition of beauty but their position.
It seems to me these women who pursuit for good shape of body only because they intend to draw attention, to be "looked good" in male's view.
In a way, they become subject and also subject to male's gaze and power.
The way modern models are trained to catch people's eyes and to enlighten people's fantacy is an example of women's submission to patriarchal power.
Compared to Pre-Raphaelite Women in Rossetti's paintings, some women nowadays seemingly are more capable to dominate their bodies to draw men's attention.
This is really an pathetic irony.
