ABSTRACT
This essay explains the Angel-Cupid relationship
by maintaining that it was a common attitude in the mythographical and
literary tradition leading to the Renaissance to make comparisons of Cupid
and angels, and that Spenser's evocation of Cupid in his description of
the angel displays the same attitude. The spiritual and thematic significance
of the angel's descent is emphasized to explain the relationship between
him and Guyon.
