Regulations Governing the Recruitment of Foreign Students

Passed by MOE Letter No. 87060792 on June 15, 1998

Article I.

The regulations are formulated according to Article V, Regulations Governing Study by Foreign Students in the Republic of China.

 

Article II.

The term "foreign students" as used in these Regulations shall mean students of foreign nationality, neither overseas Chinese nor ROC nationals, who apply to study in Taiwan in accordance with these Regulations.

 

Article III.

Foreign students should have the qualifications requested by Fu Jen’s Student’s Regulations and reach the enrollment limit. In addition, the students should pass every subject every semester at the original school. Before choosing any course from any department, foreign students should have the listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of the teaching language.

 

Article IV.

Foreign students applying for admission to Fu Jen Catholic University shall submit their applications to the Office of Studies from February 1 to April 30 every year, accompanied by the documents listed below:

  1. application for enrollment;

  2. a photocopy of the graduation certificate from the highest foreign educational institution completed, and a notarized translation in Chinese or English;

  3. an English translation of the transcript of the student's entire course work at that institution;

  4. two letters of recommendation (including one letter from the teacher teaching Chinese);

  5. a health certificate (including an HIV test);

  6. a study plan in Chinese (application to Ph.D. program should include the Chinese abstract of MA thesis);

  7. proof of financial sufficiency (proof of sufficient funds for studying in the ROC);

  8. other materials are required by the department; and

  9. application fee.

After granting admission, the student shall show proof of medical and personal accident insurance or national health insurance at the time of registration. If the student did not have it, the student should pay the insurance fee at the time of registration. FJU will do the insurance.

 

Article V.

The application should be evaluated by relevant departments/colleges. If necessary, the department can request the special admission test. Those who pass the evaluation will get the admission notice issued by FJU President.

 

Article VI.

The accepting number of any department in any given academic year shall be limited to no more than twenty percent of the number of ROC citizens admitted that year.

 

Article VII.

A foreign student who finishes the program or withdraws from a university after admission should enter Fu Jen under the same recruitment regulations as ROC citizens.

 

Article VIII.

Foreign students should cover all the necessary fees during the study at Fu Jen. If the student is qualified to MOE Foreign Students Scholarship, the student can apply to Office of Students’ Affairs. The qualified applications will be sent to MOE for allocation.

 

Article IX.

Foreign students’ academic performance should be under the supervision of belonging departments; the life guidance and assistance and insurance affairs should be in charged by Office of Students’ Affairs.

 

Article X.

The application of foreign students should be followed by these regulations, other relevant regulations from Fu Jen and MOE.

 

Article XI.

Regulations can only be executed after passed and amended by the Executive Council and MOE.
