A. 肯定句:

My parents could come next weekend.

Joyce may bring us her paintings.

We may be here in the afternoon.*

It might rain tomorrow.

*注意! May be與 maybe的差別;兩者均指可能性:

She may be here any time. (may 為一語態+ be)

Maybe she’ll come later. (maybe 為副詞)

B. 否定句:

1) may not, might not: 用來表示不會發生的事

Yolanda may not want to come early tomorrow.

2) couldn’t:不可能會做的事

A: Could you lend me the book to finish essay?

B: I couldn’t do that. That’s plagiarizing.

C. 問答句: 通常問句會以對未來的情況提出問題, 像will, going to…而回答時則用 may, might等回答:

Cathy: Will you fly to New Zealand next month?

Lesley: I may leave earlier.

Joe: When are you going to consult the lawyer?

Astrid: I might go next week. I’m really busy this week.

Susan: Are you going to open a new store?

Chloe: I might.

A: Is our bus arriving late?

B: It might be.
